THE FULL BIOGRAPHY
Thomas R. James is an author, entrepreneur, mentor, and justice advocate whose life reflects extraordinary perseverance, strength, and purpose.
In 1991, at 23 years old, Thomas was wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. For more than three decades, he maintained his innocence while studying his case, examining the legal system, and fighting to bring the truth to light. On April 27, 2022, his conviction was vacated, and he was officially exonerated after spending 32 years incarcerated for a crime he did not commit.
Thomas emerged from that experience determined to build a meaningful future not one defined solely by what happened to him, but by what he could accomplish with his freedom. Today, he uses his voice and experience to raise awareness about wrongful convictions, encourage personal growth, and advocate for fairness, accountability, and meaningful reform.
He is the founder of Innocence & Injustices Foundation, Inc., an organization committed to protecting constitutional rights, preventing unjust incarceration, and addressing the social and systemic conditions that can lead individuals into the criminal justice system. Through education, advocacy, community engagement, and access to supportive resources, Thomas works to strengthen individuals, families, and communities.
Thomas is also the author of IF THE WALLS COULD TALK: Would You Listen?, a compelling indictment of Florida’s criminal justice system. By exposing it for the world to see, know and understand the systemic ills that has become the norm. His work challenges readers to confront difficult truth, question the systemic failures, recognize and realize the lives affected by having a criminal injustice system.
His entrepreneurial efforts include J Innocent Apparel, A clothing brand that represents a bold stance against, injustice. When you Wear the brand you are the movement. He also created INNOCENCE & AND INJUSTICES EXPOSED, a podcast and media platform dedicated to exposing various forms of injustices.
Thomas continues to serve as a mentor, speaker, and community leader. His life is no longer defined by the years that were taken from him, but by the legacy he is building through leadership, service, and lasting impact.
The case against him was built on a single eyewitness who identified the wrong man. There was no physical evidence. No DNA. No weapon. Just a name mistaken for someone else authorities believed had participated in the crime.

“Injustice to anyone, anywhere is Injustice to everyone, everywhere.”
